Employers, who are quick to reverse harsh conditions imposed during the Global Economic Downturn, are well positioned to attract and retain top talent in 2010.

Employment Office Managing Director, Tudor Marsden-Huggins, says a decrease in unemployment combined with an increase in job ads in November are an indication the market is changing and employers will soon find themselves fighting for top talent again.

“As competition thickens, employers will seek out companies with a strong employee brand, who have a good reputation for treating staff well during the downturn. On the flip-side, there will be an exodus of talent, from organisations that are slow to improve working conditions,” he said.

Marsden-Huggins, says companies will need to rethink their methods for attracting talent if they want to gain the confidence of a sensitive workforce in recovering economic conditions.

“Australian Employees endured reduced pay rates, long working hours, reduced benefits, coupled with decreased job security, during 2009.

As such, they will be attracted to work for organisations who promote flexibility, commitment to health/life balance and benefits such as free fruit at work, car spaces and social clubs,” he said.

Recruitment Marketing organisation, Employment Office, specialise in candidate attraction strategies, assisting organisations to stay ahead of their competitors in the fight for talent.

“The key is understanding what it is that attracts talent to your organisation and tailoring your recruitment advertising to reflect this. The kind of benefits that attract a call centre operator to your organisation, will be different from those that attracts a web developer.” He says.

Employment Office has worked with Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology, one of the largest practices in Australia, to strategically market their roles with great success.

A recent campaign for Laboratory Assistants in Brisbane, sourced 288 candidates.

Marsden Huggins said jobs at Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology are hugely popular because of the company’s outstanding working conditions and employee benefits, which include generous leave provisions plus discounted heath insurance and medical services.
