The Gold Coast Football Club: A Recruitment Success Story

REVOLUTIONARY SUCCESS GOLD COAST FOOTBALL CLUB CASE STUDY

“From our first contact with Employment Office, we found their approach to be professional, creative and solution oriented. They made an effort to really understand our business, our culture and our stadium's vision. They successfully handled over 1000 candidates that applied for the stadium positions, keeping them well informed every step of the way and building excitement about being part of our team."
Meagan Green, HR Officer, The Gold Coast Football Club

Challenge

The Gold Coast Football Club (GCFC) were unofficially born on the 31st March 2009, and are quickly building a reputation as the most exciting football club in Australia. They have recently opened the brand new Metricon Stadium, home for the Gold Coast SUNS.

They wanted to recruit 150 casual Customer Service/Event staff for the new stadium by outsourcing the entire recruitment process while maintaining their strong values.

Some of the challenges they faced were:

  • Developing a mass recruitment strategy within a tight time period
  • Processing and short listing a high volume of applicants
  • Upholding their strong values, culture and branding
  • Hiring 250 quality casual staff before stadium opening

Solution

  • EO recognised and identified their needs through a face-to-face brainstorming meeting
  • EO created a branded application form, job board templates and print templates to increase awareness and excitement around stadium opening
  • EO's unique recruitment strategy, with customised online screening questions for each role, assisted GCFC in "comparing apples with apples" when making recruitment decisions about candidates that matched the clubs values
  • EO's unique short listing team created a tailored Assessment Centre Program that shortlisted appropriate applicants.

Results

  • Hired 150 Customer Experience Officers, some in Team Leader positions in time for the new stadium opening
  • Total spend of $29,000, equating to less than $200 cost per hire!
  • Facilitated 3 Group Assessment Days including providing training for club assessors involved in the process
  • The short listing team phone screened, interviewed and processed over 1000 applications
  • Increased brand awareness and quality application numbers due to custom branding and corporate image
  • Quality increased through greater candidate control through Recruitment Management Systems.

Interviews for our advertised position are going really well! We have received so many great candidates! We have hired one, pretty much the same day as interview, and will probably take on one more, with a “future pool” of possibles. Thank you so much Employment Office. And for sure we will be a repeat customer when the time comes again.

Kimberley Land Council - Testimonial #2

"We had been spending a fortune on newspaper advertising for little result. When Tina first approached us I was a bit skeptical but given the reasonable quote for services thought I would give it a go. We will never go back to in-house recruitment again.

Employment Office widened the field of applicants enormously and a majority of applicants were interesting in one way or another. I have actually talked to unsuccessful candidates about other roles in the organization.

"We were extremely happy with Employment Office's campaign to recruit our Fundraising and Development Manager.

We received 31 suitable applicants, screened down to 11 interviews. Any of the last shortlisted 5 applicants could have done the job. We ended up with the most outstanding candidate among them at less than 10% of the cost of alternate recruitment agencies.

Thanks Employment Office!"

"I have been using the services of Employment Office since earlier in the year for the recruitment of our specialised positions. To date I have found the service to be highly professional and extremely flexible to accommodate the clients particular needs which is important for us being a remote nonprofit Indigenous Association.

I value the input of my Account Executive whom on past campaigns has provided insightful advise, support and all the assistance required to ensure we attract the right people for our positions.

I have found this process to be easy to use and monitor. We had all online applications in one place to view and assess, it saved a lot of my time in notifying unsuccessful applicants, Tina and others at Employment Office provided plenty of support and consistently followed up to see how the campaign was going and calls were always returned when I had questions. The market coverage was significantly better than what we have achieved in other advertising campaigns, and there were a large number of suitable applicants.

Overall I feel the online advertising campaign was successful.
